Pancake Federal 21-1 Oil and Gas Well

Plains Exploration & Production Company has submitted a Notice of Staking, to be followed by an APD, to drill an oil and gas well, Pancake Federal 21-1, in White Pine County, Nevada. The project area is within a juniper and shrub community approximately 0.5 miles south of Highway 50 on the east side of Pancake Summit, approximately 20 miles southeast of Eureka, Nevada. See the attached map.

Disturbance for the oil well pad would be approximately 3 acres. A 1.4 mile access road would be built, through a combination of improvement of an existing dirt road and new construction, from US 50 to the well location. A temporary water well would be drilled at the site. Construction and drilling are scheduled to begin in the spring of 2007. Surveys for noxious weeds, cultural resources, and wildlife will be completed prior to construction in order to avoid impacts to these resources. Reclamation would consist of recontouring and reseeding the pad and the access road.

An Environmental Assessment is being prepared to analyze the impacts. Comments on the proposal and requests for additional information can be sent to Bill Wilson . Comments must be received by November 23, 2006. For further information phone Bill Wilson at (775) 289-1882 or by mail at
