This project proposal is to conduct vegetative treatments for habitat improvement and fuels reduction along the west and east sides of the north Antelope Range in multiple sections within Townships 25 and 26 North and Ranges 66 and 67 East, White Pine County, Nevada. The treatments would be conducted along the lower to upper benches on both the west and east sides of the north Antelope Range. Proposed treatments or actions to achieve project goals have not been finalized. Possible treatments that have been suggested by BLM staff specialists include chemical treatments and chaining where woodlands are establishing on sagebrush ecological sites. The target areas for treatment would include areas identified in the North Antelope Valley Watershed Assessment where pinyon and juniper trees have established on sagebrush ecological sites. The primary vegetation within the project area consists of sagebrush communities (Artemisia tridentata wyomingensis and Artemisia nova) and pinyon and juniper woodlands (Pinus monophylla and Juniperus osteosperma). Perennial grasses and forbs are present throughout a majority of the project area but occur at levels below ecological site potential. The total project area parameter includes approximately 7,226 acres, although only an estimated 70 percent of the total acreage would be targeted for treatment. The target completion date for the entire project is December 31, 2007. The proposal is being considered in order to achieve the following resource management objectives:
