Little Bald Mountain Mine

Placer Dome plans to re-initiate underground mining at Little Bald Mountain Mine. This mine, originally permitted by New Dynasty, was purchased by Placer Dome in 1993. The mine was fully reclaimed and ready for bond release in 2003. Instead of continuing with bond release, Placer Dome initiated underground exploration in January 2006. The current action involves mining additional gold reserves in the underground portion of the pit. About three acres of reclaimed waste dump would be re-opened. Ore would be transported on the road that connects Little Bald Mountain to the Sage Flats Haul Road and from there down to the Mooney Basin process facility. This road segment of about 1.5 miles would be widened to a 30 foot surface and involve about 8 acres of new disturbance. The road between Little Bald Mountain Mine and Bald Mountain Mine would be used as a back up route.
