The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely Field Office has received a proposal from the White Pine County road department to develop a five acre gravel pit in the Duck Creek Basin. Gravel from the pit would be used to improve unpaved portions of the Success Loop roadway from the end of the pavement at Berry Creek to Success Summit, among other purposes. The proposed pit would be located adjacent to the Success Loop roadway, about a half-mile south of the Berry Creek turn-off. A map is attached. The pit would supplement a similar-sized pit about seven miles north, near Gallagher Gap. A field tour of the area is being offered on April 29 to help you become better acquainted with the area and proposed project. The BLM is scheduled at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29, to conduct a tour of the proposed site. The public is encouraged to attend. Participants will meet at the BLM kiosk at the junction of U.S. 93 North and Duck Creek Basin Road, approximately five miles north of McGill. In addition to the tour, the BLM is requesting public input by 5 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2006, when the public scoping period ends. To learn more or to provide input, contact Bill Wilson, BLM Ely Field Office geologist, at the above address or at (775) 289-1882.
