Dry Lake Complex Wild Horse Gather Plan

The proposal is to conduct a wild horse maintenance gather within the Dry Lake Rattlesnake, and Highland Peak Wild Horse Herd Management Areas (HMA). The gather would commence after Dec.1st and run until Dec.20th 2006. The population estimate is approximately 220 animals. The high range of AML is 128 wild horses. A minimum of 92 wild horses would be removed and up to 140 wild horses removed. Fertility control could possibly be administered if at least 50 percent of the post population objective for mares is captured for release. This would involve capturing at least 95 percent of the population. The operation would last approximately 10 days.

Trap-sites are typically constructed in previously disturbed areas. Typical trap is ¼ acre of disturbance. All sites are cleared for cultural, weeds, and bird nests. Temporary holding corral is typically 1-2 acres in disturbance.
