TDRP Minerals has submitted a Plan of Operations to mine a diatomaceous earth (diatomite) deposit located approximately 1 mile east of Panaca, Lincoln County, Nevada. The project area is located immediately north of SR 319 in section 10 of Township 2 South, Range 68 East. See attached map.
The deposit was identified in about 1936 and was mined periodically, mostly from 1959 through1966. DRP proposes to operate an open pit mine on the southwest end of the deposit with a total surface disturbance of approximately 5 acres. This would take 2 or more years. Should this be successful, additional areas would be mined while the initial phase is reclaimed. Operations would consist of an open pit, waste dump, and loading area and would utilize dozers, loaders, highway trucks, and other heavy equipment
The BLM is preparing an Environmental Assessment to determine possible adverse impacts to potential resources and existing land uses in the area. Issues to be addressed include recreation, cultural, air quality, and visual. Comments on the proposal are encouraged and requested by 5 p.m., Friday, June 30, 2006. Additional information is available by contacting Bill Wilson at William_Wilson@nv.blm.gov or at the above address..
