The BLM has received an application for a Geothermal Lease located in Steptoe Valley, northeast of Cherry Creek, White Pine County Nevada. An EA will be prepared in order to determine whether the parcel should be available for leasing and, if so, what restrictions, if any, should be attached to the lease. The EA will also identify lease specific issues and establish potential standard operating procedures and mitigation measures for lease activities. Additional NEPA analysis will be conducted for any subsequent on-the-ground activities such as drilling. Comments on the proposal are requested by June 16, 2006.

Several hot spring systems have been documented along the west side of Steptoe Valley in the vicinity of Cherry Creek. Although several leases were issued in the past, all have been closed. A few temperature test holes were drilled. All have been plugged and abandoned.
