Christmas Tree Permits
Instructions: Christmas tree cutting  is permitted on most public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management, Ely Field Office and Caliente Field Station, Nevada.  Trees may not be cut in any wilderness area, wilderness study area or campground.  The Murry Watershed, Great Basin National Park and Nevada State Parks are also closed to tree harvesting.

A tree tag costs $3.00. An individual may purchase from one to five (5) tags (trees) with one check or money order.

Over the counter sales usually begin near Thanksgiving Day and continue through to Christmas. You are encouraged to apply early. The sale of tree cutting tags will be conducted at several locations. You can also download a pdf christmas tree application and mail it into the Caliente field station:

Caliente Field Station in Caliente, Nevada. The Caliente office is now located behind the old brown and tan building next to U.S. Highway 93 just west of Caliente. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call the Caliente Field Station office at 775-726-8100.

Ely Field Office in Ely, Nevada. The Ely Field Office is located at 702 North Industrial Way (on Highway 93 across the airport). The Ely Field Office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 775-289-1800.

Ely U.S. Forest Service Ranger District Office. The Ely Ranger District Office is located at 350 East 8th Street in Ely. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. White fir trees are available from the National Forest. Call 775-289-3031.

Visitor Center at Great Basin National Park. Tags will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., seven days a week. Call 775-234-7331.

Application for Christmas Trees
Please make out check or money order to: USDI, Bureau of Land Management. Sorry, no refunds.

Only Pinyon and Juniper trees may be cut from BLM lands. Cutting trees other than pinyon or juniper may result in a fine. White Fir trees are available through the U.S. Forest Service.

Stipulations
By complying with the following stipulations, you will minimize the ecological impact of Christmas tree cutting on the environment. You will also help to assure a quality recreational experience for all Christmas tree cutters.

- Sign your tag and attach it to your tree as soon as you cut it to validate your tag.
- If you haul more than five trees on one vehicle, the State of Nevada requests that you obtain a shipping permit. These permits are free and can be obtained from the Caliente Field Station or the Ely Field Office. No more than 20 trees may be hauled under this free use permit.
- Please cut only one tree per tag. Otherwise, the quota will have to be reduced in the future.
- Please be considerate of other public land users. Pack out your trash!
- Drive only on established roads and trails.
- Cut your tree as close to the ground as possible (6 inches or less).
- Do not cut trees over 8 feet in height.
