BLM ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR GLAMIS MARIGOLD MINING COMPANY’S WEST MARIGOLD EXPANSION PROJECT

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Winnemucca Field Office is accepting comments on an Environmental Assessment (EA) that analyzes environmental effects that could be expected to occur as a result of implementation of Glamis Marigold Mining Company’s proposed West Marigold Expansion Project. Printed copies of the EA are available at the Winnemucca Field Office and copies in portable document format (pdf) may be obtained by contacting Planning and Environmental Coordinator Lynn Harrison at 775-623-1568. Comments will be accepted through June 9, 2005 at the Winnemucca Field Office, 5100 E. Winnemucca Blvd., Winnemucca, Nevada, 89445-2921, Attn: Lynn Harrison.

The Glamis Marigold Mine is located about 13 miles northwest of Battle Mountain and three miles south of Valmy in southeastern Humboldt County, Nevada. Glamis proposes to expand the mining, heap leaching, waste rock stockpiles, and ancillary facilities beyond what was authorized in previous mine plan modifications. The proposed West Marigold Expansion Project would create approximately 579 acres of new disturbance on public lands and 420 acres of new disturbance on private lands, for a total additional disturbance area of approximately 999 acres. This includes 102 acres for the diversion of Trout and Cottonwood creeks around the proposed facilities.

“We appreciate interested members of the public taking the time to comment on our environmental analyses,” said Harrison, “and will carefully consider all comments received during the comment period.”
