BLM CAUTIONS WATER CANYON VISITORS

The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Winnemucca Field Office is cautioning visitors to the Water Canyon area to be aware of poor road conditions. Fall and winter precipitation in the form of rain and snow, have left the Water Canyon road in hazardous condition. Also, this route is not seasonally maintained by the BLM. Thus, when traveling up the Canyon, the public is being notified to travel at their own risk.

Gene Seidlitz, Nonrenewable Resources Manager, said, “While the precipitation that has fallen is a relief due to the past 4 years of drought-like conditions, unmaintained roads are poor and will continue to be impassable until the snow melts and roads dry up.”

This time of the year, especially with some recent sunny days, recreationists are often anxious to enjoy the BLM administered public lands within the Winnemucca Field Office district. However, due to snow accumulations in the Water Canyon area, some motorists have become stuck on the main road. When enjoying the public lands and the associated roads/trails, please be careful and TREAD LIGHTLY!
