BLM RECEIVES APPLICATIONS FOR 2004 MOTORCYCLE RACES IN PERSHING AND HUMBOLDT COUNTIES

Several area motorcycle racing organizations have applied to the BLM Winnemucca Field Office for permits to conduct desert motorcycle races on public lands. These races would occur during the winter and spring of 2004. The proposed race routes would primarily use washes, two-track roads and portions of previously used courses. Approximately 200 racers are expected to participate in each of the main events. Youth events would be held on Saturdays, with the main events taking place on Sundays.

The first race would take place February 14 and 15, starting at Sage Hen Wash about ten miles north of the Brady Interchange on Interstate 80. It would go through the Shawave and Nightingale Mountain Ranges before returning to the starting area.

The second race would occur on February 28 and 29 and would start at Blue Wing Flat, also north of Interstate 80. It would make two loops in the north end of the Shawave Range in the Juniper Pass area.

The third race would be held around Blue Mountain and the sand dunes northwest of Winnemucca. It would be held on March 13 and 14.

The fourth race would be held in the Jessup area, again north of Interstate 80, in the Trinity Range. This race is planned for May 8 and 9.

Please forward any comments on these proposals to the BLM Winnemucca Field Office by January 30, 2004. Anyone having questions or comments is invited to contact Barbara Keleher or Lynn Clemons at the Winnemucca BLM office, 5100 East Winnemucca Blvd., Winnemucca, NV 89445, (775-623-1500).
