Central Nevada Fire Restrictions Lifted September 15th

Due to decreased fire danger conditions in central Nevada, area land managers announced that fire restrictions on public lands will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2003. Fire restrictions will be lifted from lands within the Humboldt and Pershing County Fire Protection Districts, land administered by the BLM Winnemucca and Battle Mountain Field Offices, including those portions of Lander, Nye and Esmeralda Counties, and from Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest lands.

Recent rains and cooler temperatures have lessened the fire danger to a point where fire restrictions are no longer needed. This means that campfire permits are also no longer required. However, area land managers remind the public that it is still very important that they use care with fire and take adequate precautions to prevent the escape of campfires. Visitors to Public Lands are encouraged to carry an axe, shovel, 1-5 gallons of water, and a fire extinguisher.

Other units still enforcing fire restrictions are Nevada Division of Forestry’s Sierra Fire Protection District, BLM Carson City Field Office, the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Nevada Division of Forestry’s Mt. Charleston Fire Protection District, BLM Las Vegas Field Office, NPS Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Spring Mountains National Recreation Area of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, and the USFWS Desert National Wildlife Refuge.
