National Public Lands Day Activities
The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Winnemucca Field Office (WFO) plans to celebrate National Public Lands Day with activities in the Black Rock Desert on Saturday, September 27, 2003. Volunteers are needed for many projects and there are opportunities for everyone. Even if volunteers can only work for a few hours, the help would be much appreciated.
The Black Rock Desert will be host to not only a variety of projects but workshops as well. Join hands with other volunteers and BLM staff in wilderness restoration, weed eradication and recreation site clean-up efforts. Workshops will include topics such as wilderness, the National Desert Trail, the geology of the Black Rock Desert and an astronomy education and observation component. So pack your camping gear, grab a friend or two, and join us for a weekend of work and fun.
- Time/Date: 9:00 a.m., Saturday 9/27/03 (Camp will be set up Friday afternoon and taken down Sunday afternoon – volunteers are welcome to camp all weekend!)
- Location: The Black Rock Desert Playa which is located about 12-15 miles northeast of Gerlach, Nevada (about 2 hours NE of Reno)
