In 1992, a few locals from Winnemucca went for a mountain bike ride. When they got done riding, guess what?! Everyone had Bloody Shins. One of the locals said, "You should name this trail the Bloody Shins".

And here we are today...These are the first trails to be developed in the Winnemucca Mountain Trail System.

The Bloody Shins Trails were designated October 1998 at a National Public Lands Day event.

Forty volunteers worked to build a sign board at the trailhead, install trail markers and improve sections of single track trail.

Partners in the project include: Bikes & More; the Winnemucca Convention and Visitor's Authority; and the Nevada Division of Forestry, Rose Creek Honor Camp; The BLM,Winnemucca Field Office.
